Founded in 2018 in San Francisco by Christina Cacioppo. Vanta attacked compliance as a software problem: the platform connects to cloud accounts, HR systems and code repositories, gathers evidence automatically, and continuously checks that controls for frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR actually hold — not just the day before the auditor shows up.
Before Vanta, a SOC 2 audit was months of screenshots and spreadsheets. By making it continuous and machine-readable, the company turned compliance from an annual panic into a dashboard — and created a market in which Drata would soon become the arch-rival.
