Travis Goodspeed
Hardware hacker and neighbourly philosopher, best known for the GoodFET, the Facedancer and the journal PoC||GTFO.
Goodspeed made his name extracting firmware from microcontrollers that vendors promised were locked, TI's MSP430 in particular. His GoodFET is an open board for talking JTAG, SPI and radio chips directly, and the Facedancer lets a computer pose as any USB device it likes — an effective way to find bugs in drivers that assumed hardware never lies.
In 2011 he and colleagues demonstrated packet-in-packet: a radio frame hidden inside another that surfaces when the outer frame's start is corrupted. Since 2013 he has edited PoC||GTFO, a journal set in Bible-style typography whose PDFs are often also valid ZIP archives, audio files or programs.
