Founded in 2022 by, among others, Vipul Ved Prakash and Ce Zhang. Together AI sells compute and APIs specialised in open models: fast inference, fine-tuning and full-scale training on GPU clusters, often at a lower price than the closed providers.
The company made an early mark with RedPajama, an open attempt to recreate the training data behind Meta's Llama, and has since positioned itself as the infrastructure for anyone wanting to build on weights they control. That puts it in the same camp as Hugging Face and in competition for inference with specialised hardware like Groq.
