The to-do app for people who take their lists seriously — type "report every Friday at 5pm" in plain text and it understands both the date and the recurrence.
Amir Salihefendić, a Bosnian-Danish developer, built Todoist in 2007 and founded the company Doist around it. The app runs on essentially every platform and is known for fast capture: natural language is parsed straight into due dates, projects and recurring tasks, with no menu-clicking. "Karma" points gamify actually checking things off.
Doist is at least as well known for how it is run as for the product: fully distributed, asynchronous and self-funded, with no venture capital and no office. It is a deliberate counterpoint to the VC-pumped competition, and the company has stayed profitable in the niche where monday.com and ClickUp are overkill.
