systemd
The init system on most modern Linux distros — starts and supervises all services.
Replaced the old SysV init. systemctl start nginx, systemctl status, journalctl -u. Controversial ("does too much") but dominant. Bonus: parallel startup = faster boot, integrated log handling (journald).
