Sourcegraph

Founded in 2013 by Quinn Slack and Beyang Liu on a simple observation: grep and the IDE see one file at a time, but a large organisation has thousands of repositories where the same function, API call or vulnerable library turns up everywhere. Sourcegraph indexes the lot and offers "go to definition" and "find all references" across them, plus mass edits through Batch Changes. The Cody AI assistant arrived in 2023. That same year the company stopped releasing its source openly — a decision that annoyed part of its base but tracked the industry's broader drift away from open licences.
