Shader graph
Visual, node-based shader authoring where you wire nodes together instead of writing HLSL or GLSL by hand.
Writing shader code by hand locks out most artists. A shader graph flips that: texture samples, maths, UV manipulation and the like become nodes wired together, and the graph compiles down to real shader code. Unity's Shader Graph, Unreal Engine's material editor, Blender's shader nodes and Godot's VisualShader are all takes on the same idea. The convenience has a cost: the compiler often generates an uber-shader or a swarm of variants underneath, and a graph that has grown large can hide just how expensive it became. But the barrier drops, which was the whole point.
