Error tracking
Website

An error-tracking service that collects exceptions from running software and groups them before users get round to complaining.

David Cramer wrote it in 2008 as a small Django add-on that stored exceptions in the database. It grew into a standalone service with SDKs for most languages and became a company in 2012. Sentry ingests stack traces, un-minifies JavaScript through source maps and folds a thousand identical crashes into a single issue.

The code was BSD-licensed for years. In 2019 the company switched to the Business Source License to stop cloud providers reselling Sentry as a service, and in 2023 it coined the term Fair Source for the same idea.
