A Swedish company doing two things that don't seem to belong together: encrypted phones for the EU and NATO, and imaging systems for radiology departments.
Sectra was founded in 1978 by cryptology researchers at Linköping University. Its security arm builds encrypted voice and data communication, best known for the Tiger phones approved for classified information within the EU and several NATO countries.
The other arm, now by far the larger, is PACS — systems for storing and reviewing X-rays and other medical images. The connection is less odd than it sounds: both are about moving large amounts of sensitive data without it leaking. Medical imaging simply turned out to be the much bigger market.
