Revolut
British neobank that began as a currency card at the interbank rate and swelled into accounts, stock trading and crypto in one app.
Founded in 2015 in London by Nikolay Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko. The first product was a prepaid card that converted currency at close to the interbank rate — a direct swipe at the quiet markup banks take on foreign exchange. From there the app grew into current accounts, savings, stock and crypto trading: a bundle of features banks usually sell separately.
By 2024 the company reached a valuation around $45 billion and finally won a (restricted) UK banking licence after years of waiting. With tens of millions of users it is one of the largest challenger banks, in fierce competition with Wise, Monzo and N26.
