readnews
Usenet's original reader: one article at a time, scrolling up the terminal, with a question after each.
A News and B News shipped with their own reader, named after what you did with it. readnews showed the header of the next article and asked whether you wanted to read it, skip it or leave the group. Everything was line-by-line, because many users sat at terminals that couldn't move the cursor — or at printing terminals that put it all on paper.
As traffic grew, ruling on every post individually became unbearable. B News gained the full-screen reader vnews, and in 1984 Larry Wall's rn arrived, able to follow threads and filter out what you didn't want to see. After that, readnews lingered mainly as an install option nobody picked.
