American realtime service that markets itself as a global "Data Stream Network" for pub/sub in apps and IoT.

Founded in San Francisco in 2010 by Stephen Blum and Todd Greene — the same year as Pusher, but aimed at geographically spread low latency: a replicated mesh of data centres across several continents, so a subscriber in Tokyo isn't waiting on a server in California.

Beyond plain pub/sub, PubNub added presence detection (who's online), stored message history and serverless logic that runs on the message stream itself. Common in chat, connected devices and games where milliseconds matter.
