Affiliation
MPI-SP (Bochum), Radboud University
Known for
Kyber/ML-KEM, Dilithium/ML-DSA, SPHINCS+, Ed25519, TweetNaCl

The cryptographer whose name is on three of NIST's first four post-quantum standards.

Schwabe earned his doctorate in Eindhoven in 2011 under Tanja Lange and Daniel J. Bernstein, and it shows: fast constant-time implementations, ideally small enough to audit by eye. He co-authored Ed25519, the signature scheme built on Curve25519, and TweetNaCl, a complete crypto library that fits in a hundred tweets.

For NIST's post-quantum competition he was on the teams behind Kyber, Dilithium and SPHINCS+. In August 2024 they became FIPS 203, 204 and 205 — ML-KEM, ML-DSA and SLH-DSA. Few researchers have had such a direct hand in what the world's browsers will be negotiating for decades to come.
