Party version

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-03

The build of a demo handed in just before the compo deadline, complete with the bugs and unfinished scenes that implies.

Demos are made against a hard date: the compo deadline at a demoparty. What appears on the big screen is often stitched together over the final nights, in a hall full of computers and short on sleep. Music sync drifts, an effect goes missing, and the "final version coming soon" end screen is practically its own genre.

Weeks or months later the group may release a final version with the bugs fixed, more platforms supported and the scene that did not make it in time. Archives such as Pouët list both. Quite often the party version is the one people remember anyway, because that is what the audience saw and voted on, and the final never arrives.
