Website

Motorola's old components division, today focused on power and image sensors for the car industry.

ON Semiconductor was spun off from Motorola's semiconductor arm in 1999, taking the discrete components and power parts with it. It grew by acquisition — image sensors from Aptina and Kodak's sensor business, and in 2016 all of Fairchild Semiconductor for about $2.4 billion. In 2021 it rebranded to "onsemi", stubbornly lower-case.

The centre of gravity now lies in power electronics for electric vehicles and renewable energy — including silicon carbide (SiC) — plus image sensors for automotive cameras and machine vision.
