Samsung's internal Windows tool for flashing firmware onto Galaxy devices, never officially released yet found in every modder's toolbox.
The tool speaks a proprietary USB protocol to a phone in Download Mode (popularly "Odin mode") and writes signed firmware packages — fat .tar.md5 archives holding bootloader, kernel and system images. Samsung meant it for service centres and the factory, not the public.
It went mainstream anyway, because the builds leaked and because it was the only road back from a bricked device. Flash a package signed for the wrong region or an older bootloader and Knox trips its fuse — a one-time burned e-fuse that voids the warranty and never resets. The open-source Heimdall reverse-engineered the protocol for those who refused to boot Windows.
