Cloud telephony (UCaaS)

Web-hosting money turned into a business phone system in the Arizona desert.

Tomas Gorny co-founded the company in 2006 and landed its first customer in May 2008 — the date it now treats as its birthday. The money came from the web host iPower, which he had rolled into Endurance in 2007. The idea came from a mundane problem: he couldn't find a VoIP system that scaled to hundreds of support agents.

Nextiva sits in Scottsdale, Arizona, bundling cloud telephony, contact centre and customer management. In 2021 it raised $200 million from Goldman Sachs at a $2.7 billion valuation — unusually late for a firm that had run profitably without outside capital for over a decade. Its rivals are 8x8 and Ooma.
