Swedish VPN service that wants to know so little about its customers it doesn't even ask for an email address.

Started in Gothenburg in 2009 by Fredrik Strömberg and Daniel Berntsson; mullvad is Swedish for mole. An account is a random sixteen-digit number and nothing else. You can pay with cash in an envelope, and the price has sat at five euros a month for years. No discounts, no influencers, no countdown timer.

Mullvad was an early adopter of WireGuard and has had outside auditors go through both its apps and its servers. Its no-logs claim got a real-world test in 2023, when Swedish police arrived at the Gothenburg office with a search warrant and left empty-handed. The same year it released Mullvad Browser, built with the Tor Project: Tor Browser's anti-fingerprinting, without the Tor network.
