MICKEY

Security På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-12

A 2005 stream cipher designed to need very little silicon, aimed at hardware.

MICKEY is a stream cipher designed by Steve Babbage and Matt Dodd and submitted to eSTREAM, the stream cipher project run under the European ECRYPT network. The goal was hardware: small area and low power, which made it attractive where a full block cipher would be too heavy.

It did not make the hardware portfolio of eSTREAM; Trivium and Grain won there instead. The eSTREAM era produced many decent designs, and most of them are now footnotes.
