BBS software built for the FidoNet world that became one of the few serious options on OS/2.

Scott Dudley started Maximus around 1990 and gave it its own message base, Squish, which was faster and sturdier than FidoNet's old one-file-per-message format. It was heavily configurable through text files and had its own scripting language for menus and flows.

Alongside DOS there was an OS/2 build, which made it popular with sysops who wanted several nodes on one machine without a DOS multitasker falling over. The source was later released under the GPL, so Maximus lives on in small telnet BBSes that run it for the same reasons other people play vinyl.
