Iceman, who hacked his way to a monopoly on the black market for stolen credit cards.
Butler was a gifted security consultant in San Francisco who in 1998 patched a hole in the BIND name server across thousands of machines, the Pentagon's among them — and left a backdoor behind. That earned him 18 months in prison. He later changed his name to Max Ray Vision.
As Iceman he ran the CardersMarket forum. In 2006 he broke into rival carding forums, copied their databases and users and merged them into his own, leaving him in control of most of the market. He was arrested in 2007 and sentenced in 2010 to 13 years, at the time the longest US sentence for computer hacking. The story is told in Kevin Poulsen's book Kingpin (2011).
