- Zerocoin/Zcash, the 2016 iMessage attack, the blog "A Few Thoughts on Cryptographic Engineering"
Johns Hopkins cryptographer who has become the field's most-read explainer whenever a big encryption story breaks.
When the Snowden documents showed in 2013 that the NSA had influenced standards, Green wrote a blog post on what that might mean, including for Dual_EC_DRBG. His dean asked him to take it down because a mirror of the post linked to classified material. After a public outcry the university reversed itself within a day.
The same year his group published Zerocoin, which evolved into the Zcash cryptocurrency. In 2016 his students demonstrated an attack on iMessage that Apple fixed before publication. That year he also sued the US government with the EFF over Section 1201 of the DMCA, which he argued made security research legally hazardous.
