Real-time Unix for the lab and the factory floor — Unix back when Unix wasn't thought capable of hard timing.
The Massachusetts Computer Corporation was founded in 1982 in Westford. The MC-500 line was built on the Motorola 68000 and paired data-acquisition hardware with RTU, a Unix with genuine real-time extensions — something of a contradiction at a time when Unix was considered anything but deterministic. The machines ended up in measurement labs, defence work and process control. In 1988 the company merged with Concurrent Computer Corporation and the MASSCOMP name disappeared.
