Maniacs of Noise

På svenska → Updated: 2026-10-03

Dutch music collective that scored a large slice of the C64's late game catalogue.

Founded in 1987 by Jeroen Tel and Charles Deenen, the collective worked as a freelance audio department: publishers ordered music and sound effects, and the group delivered finished player routines for the SID chip. Cybernoid, Myth and Supremacy are among the credits.

The sound relied on the same tricks the scene had been refining — hard restart, rapid arpeggios and spliced-in samples — but at commercial scale and on deadline. The group shows how thin the line between scene and industry really was: same people, same tricks, just with an invoice attached. Deenen later moved on to audio work on PC and console games in the US.
