Kris Kaspersky
Pen name of Russian author Nikolay Likhachev, whose books on disassembly and reverse engineering taught a generation to read machine code.
Through the 1990s and 2000s he wrote a long run of books, several translated into English, including Hacker Disassembling Uncovered, Shellcoder's Programming Uncovered and one on code optimisation and memory usage. The style was hands-on and unapologetic: how protection schemes actually work, and how to get past them.
He later worked in industry vulnerability research and died in a skydiving accident in 2017. He was no relation to Eugene Kaspersky — the surname was borrowed, which made the security shelf confusing for many a beginner.
