Jonathan James
The teenager "c0mrade" who broke into NASA and the Pentagon and became the first juvenile in the US jailed for computer crime.
In 1999, aged fifteen, James planted a backdoor on a server at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency that let him read staff email and passwords. He also got into NASA and downloaded source code controlling life-support functions on the International Space Station, prompting NASA to shut systems down for three weeks to clean up.
He was sentenced in 2000 and served six months. In 2008 he was named in the investigation into Albert Gonzalez's large-scale card thefts, which he denied. Shortly afterwards he took his own life at 24, writing that he had no faith in the justice system. His case is often mentioned alongside Gary McKinnon and Mafiaboy.
