Jaya Baloo
Security chief who asked early and loudly what quantum computers would do to telecom encryption.
Baloo was CISO at the Dutch carrier KPN through much of the 2010s and one of the few operator-side security leaders to talk publicly about quantum key distribution and the need to start migrating to post-quantum cryptography long before any quantum computer could break anything. The argument was simple: traffic recorded today can be decrypted in fifteen years, and telecom gear stays in service for roughly that long.
In 2019 she moved to Avast as chief information security officer. She is a regular on the Black Hat and CCC circuit, usually arguing that security is a leadership problem rather than a tooling problem — a position that is easier to hold once you are part of the leadership.
