IMSAI
One of the first Altair clones, an 8080-based kit that became the face of the home computer in the film WarGames.
IMS Associates (Bill Millard, San Leandro, 1973) shipped the IMSAI 8080 in 1975 — a sturdier copy of the MITS Altair 8800 with the same Intel 8080 and S-100 bus. A beefier power supply and real paddle switches on the front panel made it a hit with small businesses, and Digital Research's CP/M found an early home on it. Millard parlayed the profits into founding the ComputerLand retail chain.
The company folded in 1979 and the brand has changed hands several times since. For most people, though, IMSAI lives on as the machine David Lightman uses to accidentally dial up the WOPR war computer in WarGames (1983).
