Oxide's small Rust operating system for microcontrollers, in which every task is fixed at build time and nothing gets created while the system runs.

Oxide Computer Company published Hubris in 2021 alongside its debugger, Humility. It runs on the service processors and root-of-trust chips in the company's rack servers — the kind of code expected to boot every time for a decade with nobody watching.

Tasks are separate programs isolated from each other by the MPU, talking through synchronous messages via a tiny kernel. What sets Hubris apart from a conventional RTOS is what it refuses to do: no dynamic tasks, no dynamic allocation in the kernel, no loading code after the fact. If a task crashes, the kernel restarts just that task — a watchdog with finer granularity. The name was chosen with full awareness.
