HP's network monitor that, for decades, drew the map of the enterprise network over SNMP.

HP OpenView emerged around 1990 as a bundle of tools for monitoring networks and servers. Its flagship, Network Node Manager (NNM), polled devices over SNMP, discovered the topology automatically, and rendered it as a clickable map where red icons screamed for attention. For a whole generation of network engineers, OpenView simply was "the monitoring system".

The suite grew large and expensive, competing with everything from Tivoli to open-source upstarts. HP renamed it repeatedly — HP Software, then HP BTO — and in 2017 it went along when HP's software arm was spun out into Micro Focus. The OpenView name now survives mostly in old requirement specs and nostalgia.
