Microsegmentation

An Israeli microsegmentation tool, now Akamai's, that draws firewall rules between individual workloads rather than around the whole data centre.

Founded in 2013 in Tel Aviv by Pavel Gurvich and Ariel Zeitlin. Their thesis was that the classic perimeter firewall had become pointless: once inside the network, an attacker can move laterally between servers at will. Guardicore deploys lightweight agents that map every flow and let you deny all but what's explicitly allowed — zero trust applied to east–west traffic.

The map view, showing application dependencies as a living graph, was what people remembered best. Akamai bought the company in 2021 for around $600 million to pair its edge platform with segmentation on the inside, and rebranded it Akamai Guardicore Segmentation.
