The holding pen of consumer security, where Norton, Avast and AVG now share an owner.

The family tree starts at Symantec. When Broadcom bought Symantec's enterprise business in 2019, the consumer side was left over as NortonLifeLock, with the Norton brand and the LifeLock identity-protection service. In 2022 it merged with Avast in a deal worth around eight billion dollars and renamed itself Gen Digital, headquartered in Tempe, Arizona and Prague.

The portfolio now holds Norton, Avast, AVG, Avira, CCleaner and LifeLock — the antivirus industry's former arch-rivals under one roof. The business runs on consumer subscriptions, in a market where much of the protection already ships with the operating system and most customers never actively chose their antivirus.
