More info
- Name
- Francesco Vianello
- Lived
- 1952–2009
- Known for
- Fravia's pages of reverse engineering, searchlores
The Italian whose website served as the 1990s university of reverse engineering.
From the mid-1990s he ran Fravia's pages of reverse engineering, a collection of tutorials on taking programs apart with a disassembler and debugger — often written by others under pseudonyms, often using copy protection as the practice target. The tone was equal parts technique, philosophy and sarcasm aimed at the software industry, inherited from the semi-mythical teacher +ORC.
Around 2000 he left cracking behind and turned to searchlores, the craft of actually finding things on the web. He died in 2009. Plenty of people who now reverse malware for a living learned the basics on his pages.
