Berlin hacker, better known as FX, who spent the 2000s demonstrating that routers are computers too.
As the leading figure of the Phenoelit group, Lindner gave a long run of talks at Black Hat and the Chaos Communication Congress on flaws in network equipment. His particular speciality was Cisco IOS: a monolithic system where every process shares memory and one crash takes the whole router down, which makes exploitation hard but not impossible.
He showed that heap overflows in IOS could be exploited, and argued for years that operators treated routers as black boxes nobody ever audited. Phenoelit is also known for its list of default passwords for network gear. Lindner founded the Berlin consultancy Recurity Labs.
