A German hardware maker whose capture cards and Stream Deck button box became standard kit on every streamer's desk.

Elgato was founded in Munich in 1992, making TV tuners and recording software (EyeTV) for the Mac at first. As live streaming on Twitch and YouTube took off, the company pivoted to content creators: capture cards that record gameplay without taxing the gaming PC, ring lights, green screens and microphone arms.

Its most-copied product is the Stream Deck from 2017 — a small box of LCD keys that can trigger scene changes, macros and sound effects at a tap. In 2018 the gaming side was bought by Corsair, which kept Elgato as a brand alongside its own.
