Edge serverless

Akamai's service for running JavaScript directly on its CDN nodes, launched in 2020.

EdgeWorkers lets developers run their own JavaScript across Akamai's edge network — the thousands of servers already caching content near users — instead of in a central data centre. The code runs in V8 isolates at named events in the request/response flow (onClientRequest, onOriginResponse and so on), giving millisecond latency with no server to operate.

It is Akamai's answer to Cloudflare Workers and AWS Lambda@Edge: the same idea of serverless compute pushed out to the edge, but on top of the industry's oldest and largest CDN. Typical uses are A/B tests, personalisation, response rewriting and light API logic close to the user.
