EBICS
A protocol for sending payment files and fetching statements between companies and their banks, standard in Germany, France and Switzerland.
The Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard was developed by the German banking associations and became mandatory for German banks in 2008, replacing an older ISDN-based system. France joined a few years later and retired its own ETEBAC, and Switzerland followed. The protocol is XML over HTTPS, but its security does not rest on TLS. Each user holds separate RSA key pairs for authentication, encryption and signing, and files can require several signatures before the bank executes them.
The famous part is initialisation. The keys are sent electronically, but their fingerprints are printed on a sheet of paper, the German INI-Brief, which is signed and posted to the bank. It is tedious, and precisely for that reason hard to spoof. The payload is usually pain.001 for payments and camt.053 for statements.
