DoveNet
The message network linking BBSes that run Synchronet, with Rob Swindell's Vertrauen as its hub.
When Synchronet arrived in the early nineties, it brought its own network along. Instead of FidoNet's nodelists and overnight dial-outs, DoveNet runs on QWK packets: each board picks up and drops off mail at the hub much like a user with an offline reader, only automated. That makes joining easy — a sysop mostly has to fill in a form.
Traffic covers BBS operation, Synchronet support and general chatter among the sysops still keeping the hobby alive. DoveNet now runs over the internet and has outlived most networks of its generation, largely because the software it depends on never died.
