Dmitri Alperovitch
Russian-born American security researcher who co-founded CrowdStrike and turned nation-state attribution into a business model.
As head of threat research at McAfee, Alperovitch published the 2011 report on Operation Shady RAT, a five-year intrusion campaign against more than 70 organisations, and helped pull the term APT out of closed government circles. The same year he co-founded CrowdStrike with George Kurtz, on the premise that defenders should hunt adversaries rather than malware samples.
In 2016 CrowdStrike attributed the breach of the Democratic National Committee to two Russian intelligence groups — one of the most politically charged calls the industry has ever made. Alperovitch left the company in 2020 and has worked on security policy since.
