The Boston-based EDR vendor whose "MalOp" tried to show a whole attack as one story rather than a flood of alerts.
Founded in 2012 by three veterans of Israel's Unit 8200 — Lior Div, Yonatan Striem-Amit and Yossi Naar. Cybereason built EDR around the notion of a MalOp (malicious operation): instead of alerting on every suspicious process, the engine correlates events across machines into a single attack chain that an analyst can follow from first foothold to objective.
The company raised heavily, notably from SoftBank, and rode the same wave as CrowdStrike and SentinelOne. It has since wrestled with profitability and ownership disputes — a reminder that a good product and a durable business are not the same thing.
