Cristiano Giuffrida
Italian systems researcher at VUSec in Amsterdam, involved in a large share of the past decade's Rowhammer and side-channel attacks.
Giuffrida did his PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam on live updating of operating systems, with MINIX 3 as the test subject, and stayed on in Herbert Bos's security group, VUSec. The list of attack names grew long: Drammer (2016) brought Rowhammer to Android phones, Flip Feng Shui flipped bits in neighbouring virtual machines, and TRRespass (2020) showed DDR4's Rowhammer mitigations could be bypassed.
2019 brought RIDL, one of the MDS attacks that read data out of the processor's internal buffers, and 2020 CrossTalk, which leaked data across cores. VUSec has also openly criticised Intel's handling of embargoes and bounties — an unusual stance for researchers who depend on the vendor's cooperation.
