Cloud service for tracking what a company actually buys — and from whom — before the bill becomes a surprise.

Founded in 2006 and focused on "spend management": gathering a company's purchases, invoices, expenses and supplier contracts into one system so finance can see where the money goes before it has gone. The pitch is that unmanaged spending — a department here, a subscription there — leaks more money than anyone expects.

The company went public in 2016 and was taken private in 2023 by the private-equity firm Thoma Bravo for around $8 billion, one of several enterprise-finance cloud companies the same owner pulled off the market in a short span. Coupa competes mainly with SAP Ariba for large enterprises' procurement flows.
