Cloudinary was founded in 2011 by Itai Lahan, Tal Lev-Ami and Nadav Soferman. As with imgix, transformations happen through the URL — size, format, cropping, quality — but Cloudinary went broader into video early, along with automatic format selection (AVIF or WebP depending on the browser).
The product sits between a bucket and the site and removes the need to pre-generate every image variant yourself. A large slice of e-commerce leans on it for product imagery.
