DilDog of the Cult of the Dead Cow, who wrote a remote-administration tool so good the antivirus vendors called it a trojan.
Rioux belonged to both the Cult of the Dead Cow and the L0pht. The cDc's original Back Orifice, written by Sir Dystic in 1998, demonstrated how easily Windows 98 could be controlled remotely. Rioux wrote the sequel, Back Orifice 2000, released at DEF CON 7 in July 1999 as open source with Windows NT support and a plugin architecture.
The group's line was that it was no more malicious than commercial remote-desktop software; the difference was that it could hide. The antivirus industry filed it under trojans regardless. After the L0pht merged into @stake, Rioux co-founded Veracode in 2006 with Chris Wysopal and became its chief scientist, building an engine for static analysis of compiled binaries.
