Chris Inglis
Long-serving NSA official who became America's first National Cyber Director in 2021.
Inglis started out as a US Air Force pilot and joined the NSA in the mid-1980s. From 2006 to 2014 he was deputy director, the agency's top civilian post, which meant he was still in the chair when the Snowden documents began to appear in 2013 and had to defend the programmes in public.
After retiring he sat on the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, which among other things recommended giving the White House a dedicated cyber coordinator. The idea became law, and in June 2021 Inglis was confirmed as the first to hold the post. He left in February 2023, having laid the groundwork for the national cybersecurity strategy published the following month.
