Blink
Chromium's rendering engine. Forked from WebKit in April 2013 by Google. Powers Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc — i.e., ~70% of all browsing.
Fork motivation: WebKit2 (Apple's multi-process model) conflicted with Chromium's already-established one. Blink + WebKit have gradually diverged since. Distinct from V8 (JavaScript engine, separate). Layout engine, paint, compositing — what takes HTML+CSS and paints pixels. RenderingNG (2021) modernization. Monoculture concerns: when Blink is default, it drives de-facto standards.
