Ben Hawkes
Security researcher on Google Project Zero's original roster, who went on to lead the team during the years its 90-day rule became an industry norm.
Project Zero launched in 2014 with a mandate to find zero-days in other people's software, not just Google's. Hawkes was there from the start and took over leadership after Chris Evans. On his watch the team's stance hardened: 90 days after a report the bug goes public, fixed or not, with few exceptions. Vendors complained, and patch times shrank.
In 2019 the team began keeping a public tracker of zero-days caught being exploited in the wild, which made it possible to see what attackers actually use rather than what researchers assume they use. Hawkes left Project Zero in 2022.
