Known for
The Snowden revelations, Dark Mirror (2020)

The third journalist to receive Edward Snowden's documents, and the one who brought them to The Washington Post.

Gellman already had a Pulitzer for an investigation of Vice President Dick Cheney when Edward Snowden reached out in 2013, alongside Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras. That June the Post ran the first story on PRISM, the NSA programme for pulling data from major US internet companies. The Post and The Guardian shared the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

Gellman kept digging, including into how the NSA tapped traffic between Google's and Yahoo's data centres. His book Dark Mirror (2020) also describes becoming a target himself — repeated intrusion attempts against his accounts and devices — and the rather extreme OPSEC routine that followed.
