Assembly (demoparty)
Finland's big summer party, started in 1992 by demogroups and since grown into one of the largest computer events in the Nordics.
The first Assembly was held in 1992 in Kauniainen, just outside Helsinki, organised by demogroups from both the PC and Amiga camps. The following year Future Crew's Second Reality won the PC demo compo there, which secured the party a place in the history books almost immediately.
Through the 2000s the centre of gravity shifted towards LAN gaming and esports, and attendance is now counted in thousands at Helsinki's exhibition centre. The demo compos are still there, sharing the hall with gaming tournaments – a development parts of the scene regard with roughly the enthusiasm they reserve for lamers.
