Commodore's last Amiga home computer: AGA graphics and a 68020, two years too late.

Launched in autumn 1992 with a 14 MHz 68EC020, 2 MB of chip RAM and the AGA chipset, which finally delivered 256 colours from a 16.8-million palette. Kickstart 3.0, room for a 2.5-inch IDE drive and a PCMCIA slot made it better than the A500 in every respect but one: the VGA-equipped 386 PC had already left it behind.

Commodore went bankrupt in 1994, which made the A1200 the end of the line. The demoscene stayed considerably longer — 68030 and 68060 accelerator boards kept the machine competitive in AGA compos well into the 2000s, and it remains the obvious box for running floppy games from hard disk via WHDLoad.
